Deal Announcement December 2017

Cham Paper Group, Switzerland (SIX Swiss Exchange: CPGN), sold its speciality paper business to the Sappi Group for an enterprise value of CHF 146.5 million. Sappi is listed on the Johannesburg stock exchange and one of the world’s leading pulp and paper companies. The integration of Cham’s paper business into the Sappi Group will open new perspectives for the employees of the two high-performance plants of Cham in Carmignano and Condino (Italy).

In recent months, Cham’s Board of Directors examined strategic options following the relocation of the speciality paper production from Switzerland to Italy and the modernisation of the plants in Italy. Although Cham Paper Group’s profitable speciality paper business is well positioned, it is still too small to develop its market position on its own in the long term. The sale of Cham’s operational business marks an evolution for Cham to develop into a real estate company with the Papieri Areal Development in Cham.

Sappi produces and sells dissolving wood pulp, speciality, packaging and graphic paper, as well as biometarials. With revenues of over USD 5 billion it employs around 12,000 people.

Role of Capital Concepts International (CCI)

CCI acted as exclusive M&A Advisor to the board of Cham Paper Group in the successful preparation, structuring, negotiation and execution of the complex sale process of CPG across multiple jurisdictions (Switzerland, Italy, South Africa).
